Profile

A thorough county professional for Hampshire, John Arnold played just a lone Test for England. In 1931, he was picked to open the batting alongside Fred Bakewell in the absence of Hobbs and Sutcliffe. Arnold managed just 34 runs in 2 innings and never returned to international cricket.

He scored 21831 first-class runs, studded with 37 hundreds before his career was put to an end by an illness. After retirement, Arnold turned to umpiring.
